Mamnoon Hussain ( ; born 23 December 1940) is a Pakistani textile businessman, nationalist conservative, and politician〔(Profile of presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain ) 〕 〔 (Presidential elections: PML-N picks Mamnoon Hussain for top job ). ''The Express Tribune'' (Pakistan)〕 who has served as the President of Pakistan since 9 September 2013. Hussain briefly served as Governor of Sindh in 1999; his stint as Governor was cut short by the military coup d'état staged in 1999. After the PML(N) secured majority in general elections held in 2013, Hussain was nominated and elected as President of Pakistan on 30 July 2013. During the indirect presidential elections held in 2013, Hussain received 432 votes from the Electoral College out of 704 votes, during which, his competitor Wajihuddin Ahmed received 77 votes.〔 Succeeding outgoing president, Asif Zardari, who did not seek reelection, Hussain took over the presidency after an oath administrated by the Chief Justice of Pakistan on 9 September 2013. ==Personal life== Mamnoon Hussain hails from an Urdu-speaking family of shoe traders and was born in Agra, UP during the British rule. He and his family migrated to Karachi in 1949 after the independence of Pakistan in 1947. After graduating from a local high school, Hussain enrolled in the Karachi University where he studied for the Commerce degree in 1957. Graduating in BA with honors in Commerce from the Karachi University, he entered in the master's program at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi, and gained MBA in 1965.
